In the Spotlight: BDC Board Advisor Dr. D’Wayne Edwards – “Building the Next Generation of Black Designers”
The Black Design Collective is proud to celebrate the accomplishments and thought leadership of Advisory Board member Dr. D’Wayne Edwards, whose work continues to shape the future of design education and expand pathways for emerging Black creatives.
In a recent feature published by The Athletic, a publication of The New York Times, Dr. Edwards reflects on his journey from sketching sneaker designs as a teenager at L.A. Gear to leading Pensole Lewis College of Business & Design in Detroit—the nation’s only HBCU dedicated to design education.
His commitment to mentorship, access, and design education closely aligns with BDC’s mission to cultivate the next generation of Black designers and creative leaders across disciplines.
